Help raise funds for Valley Drive Cooperative Preschool when you spend at your usual stores and restaurants. Valley Drive families have said in the past that they would love to support our scrip fundraising effort, but that they do not frequent the stores we had in our program. Our new scrip program now has hundreds of retailers, where there is surely something for everyone!
Scrip is simply a term for substitute money, in this case, in the form of pre-paid gift cards or certificates that are used just like cash. These gift cards are issued by a huge selection of retailers and restaurants, which want to support local non-profit organizations and, of course, to encourage people to buy with their scrip. Valley Drive buys these certificates from the Great Lakes Scrip organization at a discount (which varies from 3% to 17% depending on the retailer) and sells them on to you at face value. The school gets to keep the difference, and our children reap the benefits.
For those who want to know more about Scrip and how it works, you can go to the Great Lakes Scrip Center website at www.glscrip.com, where there is also a full list of participating retailers. Otherwise, a comprehensive list of retailers in our area, together with the discount percentage each store offers, is available on our monthly order form.
Since so many of the participating retailers are stores and restaurants we already frequent regularly, apart from having to find a little extra space in our wallets for the gift cards, scrip is a relatively painless way for us to raise money for our school. We are not asking you to spend money that you wouldn't anyway, just to think about where you shop and pay with scrip instead of your usual cash or credit. Please look through the order form at the list of stores and think hard about how you can contribute.

How to Order
Simply fill out the order form, indicating how many cards you want beside the relevant retailers, and write a check for the total amount ordered (make payable to "Valley Drive Cooperative Preschool"). Scrip orders (and checks) will be due by the first of each month, at the same time as tuition payments. There will be a folder marked "scrip" in the tuition box in the purple room, and a second folder containing blank order forms. E-mail reminders will be sent out each month and, for the first couple of months at least, we'll put order forms in your children’s cubbies.
We're happy to take standing orders for those who wish. For regular GIANT customers, you can now buy "Stop and Shop" scrip cards which can be used at any Giant Foods store.

For those of you who have Safeway Club Cards or Harris Teeter VIP Cards, we can link your card number to our school ID for added funds for the school. To register your card, go to www.escrip.com; go to Supporter Registration, write down Valley Drive Cooperative Preschool (or our group ID 148868158) and click on Search; then click Next and fill out the form. You will get confirmation and your ID number.
